A Little Bit About Ken Wittenberg
For Ken Wittenberg, wealth management isn’t just what he does. It’s how he communicates. A native of the Detroit area, he grew up watching his family manage the family business. Seeing the interplay among his relatives about how the big investment decisions got made led Ken to takeaways that he would take to his career and inform his investment strategy. The first major point he learned: To be an effective money manager, it’s about lending an open ear–and as he would show throughout his career–knowing when to make his calls heard.

It’s this ability to cut through the investment noise that has gotten his clients strong results. “I watch the markets very closely and listen to my clients concerns and priorities.”, he says. “And I also understand how the investment markets work, which gives me the ability to make sound decisions in favor of my clients needs.” Understanding what his clients want and need is but one half of the investor/advisor equation, however. From an early age, Ken has shown a knack for interpreting the markets and breaking down complex financial matters and concepts into plain English.
Let’s Go Back In Time
After graduating from college, Ken translated his business acumen and people skills into entrepreneurship. He launched a parking company that evolved into an operation that served the greater Detroit area’s movers and shakers. After selling that business–and using the proceeds to make some significant market wins in his own right–Ken pulled stakes for New York City, where he set off on his investment career.
Upon his arrival, it seemed like smooth sailing. He rented himself an apartment on the Upper East Side and began networking around the city. Then settled into urban life to accomplish his dream of making it on Wall Street, through seeing the sector a bit differently.
He got situated at a boutique investment bank in NYC, where he quickly made a name for himself both inside and outside the firm as someone eager to help clients—and when need be, unafraid to give blunt advice.
A Little More About Ken
From there, Ken’s business continued to gain steam on the back of referrals. Over the intervening years, Ken would go on to set up a fund of hedge funds, advise family offices, and work with marquee players in the institutional investment industry. By the mid-2000s had rolled around, he had the foresight to see the risk in commercial and residential mortgage-backed securities, and pointed this out to his peers working in the markets at the time.
Sometime during the fallout of the resulting late-2000s financial crisis, Ken saw the need for a financial advisory practice that would give blunt, unfettered feedback to clients, while helping them to foster the best growth possible from their investments. Ken saw the need for a firm that offered nothing but transparent advice. It would be a place to do away with conventional wisdom on when and why to invest, and why not every strategy may be the best fit for every client.
